Great training ride last night. Used a milometer for the first time. According to Milo, we covered 72.36 km (45miles) in 3hr 34 mins, which apparently works out at an average speed of 20.3km/h (12.61 mph). Legs were feeling it by the end, and we're still to get gel saddles fitted, but overall it felt pretty comfortable, and if we can keep that sort of pace over the 9 days we should reach the finish line with time to spare.
What a beautiful evening it was weather-wise; the sun was out but there was a gentle breeze to keep us cool - a perfect summer's evening. For those interested in our training route, we've been heading from: Wootton > Cumnor > Farmoor > Eynsham > Church Hanborough > Long Hanborough > Bladon > Bunkers Hill > Enslow > Bletchingdon > Islip > Forest Hill > Wheatley > Littleworth > Horspath > Cowley > Littlemore > Sandford > Radley > Abingdon...and sometimes the reverse. Cycling around the Oxfordshire countryside and through all these picturesque villages is a complete joy, and in some ways it's a shame that our route doesn't pass through Oxon at some point. However, we can't wait to travel through some fantastic British landscapes, especially the areas we've never been before such as north Scotland, east Wales and south-west England.
So, eight days to go before we set off. A bit more training, a final scan of the inventory check-list, and we should be all set...!
